Activity: Kitchen Library
Reading Promotion Week – Library Activity
Under Reading Promotion Week 3, the library conducted an innovative activity titled “Kitchen Library” to connect reading skills with daily life experiences.
In this activity, students brought empty food packet wrappers used in their kitchen. The wrappers were pasted on sheets and carefully observed by the students. They read and understood the ingredients list, colour symbols, labels, and difficult words printed on the packets.
Students learned to identify natural and artificial colours, understand food safety symbols, and differentiate between healthy and unhealthy food items. They were also guided to read important label information such as nutritional value, manufacturing date, expiry date, and instructions for use.
This activity helped students improve reading comprehension, vocabulary, and awareness about healthy eating habits. The Kitchen Library activity successfully showed students that reading and learning can take place even through everyday household materials.
